About Coach Sarah

Hi, I’m Coach Sarah!

I’ve been swimming ever since I can remember. I discovered the competitive sport at the age of 11, while swimming for my YMCA team in North Carolina. I swam all the way through high school, swimming for my year round Y team as well as my high school team. I even realized my loved for coaching in these years as I led an area wide 6 session swim clinic for high school swimmers. In addition, I taught 4 hour back-to-back swim lesson sessions to people of all ages.

Once I graduated, I knew I wanted to still swim in college. I was recruited by East Carolina University, a Division I University! I had an amazing time with some great people. I swam incredible times, helped the team win Conference USA, won a few athletic/academic awards, and even set a few records for ECU, some of which were held for years. While in college over the summers, I even taught my own swim lessons and coached a summer league swim team. I lived and breathed swimming!

Since graduating college, I’ve been working full time as an Interior Designer at a top architectural firm in Richmond VA. I specialize in designing healthcare and sports facilities. Swimming helps me create many of these spaces. Interior Design is truly demanding, so I’ve made sure to continue my swimming on a regular schedule to beat all the stress and keep a healthy lifestyle. I have been swimming with my YMCA masters swim team now for almost 12 years. In 2014, I became their coach! One thing that is unique to my team is that I swim and coach along everyone else.

In 2014, I also started my journey towards becoming a mother with my husband, Ben. I am proud to say that I continued to swim through three back to back pregnancies. Swimming all the way until the day the babies were born and then again after. I’ve done a number of sprint triathlons, open water ocean swims, and master swim meets in my years as a “retired collegiate swimmer.”

My goal is to help swimmers stay motivated through all of life’s events and just keep swimming. I believe you can reach your goals and enjoy your swim life!
